This Project

Image
This is the project I have been thinking about since you were born, Sayler.  So if you are old enough to read this blog and I have not yet completed said project please feel free to call me out on my lethargy, forgetfulness and overall inability to complete a project within 3 years (or more)...   I have scoured Craigslist for one of these (that I hope is still available when I call tomorrow...)     It's an old-school, tin-like mailbox we all had stateside as kids (until my dad built a replica of our 1202 house out of wood and replaced the tin mailbox with his custom version).   The project is to acquire one of these mailboxes and paint it in all the colors that remind me of you, Sayler, like lime green and lavender, to hang on a wall in your bedroom.   They are the colors that remind me of only you, because Lord knows I have never been a lime green kind of girl.  But shortly after you were born it was in lime green I saw just how striking you were, and every t

"Anna Begins" makes me smile. It's one of the songs my brother, Corbin, used to randomly sing with his guitar while we sat around doing nothing.  Frankly, his version was better than the original And there are other songs that remind me of doing nothing other than sitting around when we had time to sit around.   Before we were graced with awesome children, long work days, houses, spouses, DIY projects that take us to Home Depot on the weekends and text conversations that go a little something like.... This isn't a long-winded blog.  It's just a virtual hug to my brother, Corbin, who I love dearly.

My Littlest Valentine: Review in Photo

I  had a nice, relaxing Valentine's weekend and somehow managed to pass out each night since Friday before 9 p.m.  The pink and yellow roses Lloyd brought home brighten my kitchen window and the lovely card with his enduring sentiments rests atop the mantle.  But as the long weekend dwindles to a slow, crawling close, I hang out with just my littlest Valentine while Lloyd plays in his weekly Sunday soccer game. And these are the recent images that remind me of how crazy in Love I am with this little beauty: Smooches Before My First Half-Marathon   At KB's Baby Shower   At John's Incredible Pizza Making Our "That's Incredible!" Faces   And again, at John's, displaying our mutual enthusiasm for our "matching denim jackets!" (Her idea, not mine... She's masking her glee behind the faux frown) And Commemorating Our Saylerbration of a First "Official" Pedicure in Photo   This is my littlest

We toddled downstairs, My toddler and I. This was after she woke up, many hours after I had awoken to tackle tasks... She smiled sleepily as she joined me, lying in our guest bedroom where I had been tapping away, focused, clearing my correspondence-plate in anticipation of what would be a morning I could spend with just her. A nice mid-week treat. Somewhere between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. I worked. I finished my pressing tasks and emails and even managed to get laundry washed. I was sort of my own hero. And so when she joined me I was able to put away my plate and snuggle. She smiled as we stared at each other for a long while, words unspoken. After the minutes passed, I affectionately cooed, "Hi, my baby" the way I do each day. "Hi my baby mommy" she offered back, smugly. She held my face close as she whispered, in an almost mocking gesture, but one I know is sweet and sincere and shared just between us. And when we finally landed downstairs wi

It hasn't been but a few days and already I can sense the indulgence and dependability on this #Apple product. I am not good at keeping surprises, so the Valentine's Day gift to Lloyd and Sayler presented itself early.   An #iPad Air.  Something to keep Sayler from my iPhone and texting my customers.  A place for Sayler to watch her movies and YouTube videos instead of on mommy's 'cmpootr'.  And a way for her to learn to take photos from this device instead of taking videos from my phone that she sends to people in my contacts list.  Because getting a text that reads "were you shopping at Costco today? I think you sent me a video..." is quite embarrassing. Oy. It's something Lloyd can record music on and get excited about while deciding to show me all of the amps available on the Air while I attempted an indulgent soak in the tub.  As I lingered in peace, he stormed in with the smile of a 5 year old telling me about the features of
